The air handler is the interior/indoor part of the split system unit. The air handler is small enough in size, and weight, that it can easily hang on a wall inside your home. The air handler is interior design-friendly too, as it can be suspended from a ceiling, mounted flush into a drop ceiling, or simply hung on a wall. The air handler needs to be connected to the exterior/outdoor part of the split system unit, which is the condenser. The condenser is small enough in size and weight, that it can easily be mounted to the wall outside of your home. The air handler and condenser must be connected to each other via a conduit. This is typically achieved by drilling a three (3) inch hole through the wall for the conduit.

Individual Room = An individual Samsung Ductless Mini-Split System Unit can be used to cool an individual room, on a standalone basis, as it is not connected to an existing HVAC system. The unit is controlled by its own thermostat, which gives it great operational flexibility. The room can now be kept at temperatures preferred by the individual occupant, without affecting any other areas of the home!

Zoned Areas = Some Samsung Ductless Mini-Split System Units have condensers that have anywhere from two (2) to five (5) ports on them. These condensers are also called multiport condensers. The multiport condensers allow for “Zoning” to take place, as an individual air handler can be connected to each individual port. These units are ideal for multiroom additions that are added to your home. Let’s say you build an addition to your home that adds five (5) room/areas. Each of the five (5) room/areas in the addition has its own air handler that is connected to the multiport condenser. Each air handler is controlled by its own thermostat, which gives each room/area great operational flexibility. Each room/area in the zone can now be kept at temperatures preferred by the individual occupants in each room/area in the zone, without affecting any other areas in the room/area in the zone!

When installing new traditional HVAC equipment, a large furnace/condenser/air handler needs to be installed. After the installation of the traditional HVAC equipment is completed, it must be connected to existing ductwork, or have new ductwork installed in its entirety, depending on the existing configuration. Connecting to existing ductwork, and installing new ductwork is a cumbersome process, where work in the ceiling is required, which of course means more inconvenience for the homeowner and more cost for the homeowner.
